Ernest A. Robichaud, 88, of Sanford, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on April 9 at the Pavilion in Sanford.He was born in Fitchburg, MA on October 31, 1919, a son of Hypolyte and Cleophee (Lachance) Robichaud and came to Sanford as an infant.He was employed with the South Portland Shipyard, then was drafted into the US Navy. He served in the Pacific during World War II on the USS Charger and the USS Hancock.After the war, he returned home and worked in Sanford, first at Tennford Weaving and then for Brooks Woolen Mills.A devoted Catholic, he was a member of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish. He was a Cursillista and a member of the Living God Community prayer group.He was a member of the Sanford-Springvale YMCA, the Lafayette Social Club and the Full Gospel Business Men. He was a sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox.He had a fondness for Waban and participated in several fundraising activities including the penny collection and was a founder of the bean suppers at Waban.Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Rejeanne (Roy) Robichaud of Sanford, a daughter Margaret Hebert and her husband Maurice, a son Ron Robichaud, all of Sanford, a brother Donald Robichaud and his wife Evelyn of Sanford, a granddaughter Theresa Salls, her husband Gordie and their children Justin and Emily of Springvale, grandson David Hebert, his wife Kelly and their children Samantha and Matthew of Sanford, grandson Marc Hebert and his wife Lisa of Hyde Park, MA, and an 'adopted grandson' Steve Cabana of Sanford.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford on Friday from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 :00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
