Fernand "Fred" LeBlanc, 87, of Alfred and Fort Pierce Florida, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2010 in Florida.Fred was born in No. Cambridge, Mass. on January 20, 1923 the son of Herman and Gabrielle (Clement) LeBlanc, graduating from Foxborough High School in 1941. In 1957, he married Gloria Cote and together they raised three children.He served in the US Navy from 1941 to 1947, having served in several Pacific Theater campaigns during World War II. He came to Sanford in 1947, worked in the dye house of the Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills until they closed in 1954, the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Velda Rose Hotel in Mesa, Arizona, returned to Sanford and worked at Cyro Industries for more than 20 years from where he retired. During his retirement, he worked summers for the Forbes and Lafayette Hotels at Wells Beach for more than 20 years. Fred and his wife wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Florida where he was very active in the golf and shuffleboard community and more recently wintered in Fort Pierce, Florida, enjoying the company of close relatives. He and his wife owned a cottage at Wells Beach for more than 30 years where family and friends spent many happy times. He was an avid sports fan, worked for the Red Sox Spring Training Camp in Fort Myers Florida, and was a faithful Sanford Mainers fan. When he wasn't watching one of his favorite Boston teams, he could be found fishing or playing pool with his son, Tom. He was a member of The American Legion, Springvale Social Club, and a lifetime member of the Lafayette Club. Fred will be remembered for his laughter (that was very contagious!), love and honesty. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Gerald and Raymond, a sister Yvonne, and a grandson Curtis. Besides Gloria, his wife of 53 years, Fred is survived by a son Thomas LeBlanc and his wife Jill of Sanford; daughters Kathleen Nolette of Kennebunk and Gayle McAllister and her husband Jim of Richmond, Virginia; sisters Jean Vennell and Geraldine LeBlanc of Sanford; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Amanda, Sean, Randi, Liam and Lily; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 19 at 1:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale where relatives and friends are invited to call from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 51 US Rte. 1 Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074 or a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
