Mildred R. Smith, 69, of Waterboro, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Mildred was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on March 12, 1949 to William and Mildred (Noonan) Smith, one of fifteen children. She grew up in Charlestown, Massachusetts and Barnstead, New Hampshire where she attended local schools. She was employed at several local shoe shops before leaving the workforce to raise her family. In 1979 Mildred met John A. Smith. They married in 1981 and together they shared nearly 37 years of marriage.Mildred was a quiet woman who enjoyed spending time at home with her family. Holidays were always a favorite time of year for her. She had a large collection of decorations for each holiday and would spend hours setting up her home for everyone to enjoy. She was an avid sports fan and always loved to cheer for all of the Boston teams. She also enjoyed traveling to the different lighthouses around the state and collecting lighthouse memorabilia. Mildred was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She took pride in keeping a warm and welcoming home for family and friends to visit. Her love and kindness touched many different people throughout her life and she will be dearly missed. Mildred was predeceased by a son, Ernest R. Cline, Sr.; a granddaughter, Venna Cline and by four siblings, Frederick, James, Samuel and Dorothy.Surviving are her husband, John A. Smith of Waterboro; two sons, James G. Cline, Sr. of Nashua, New Hampshire and Brian D. Cline and his wife Tonya of Sanford; five grandchildren, Ernest R. Cline, Jr. of Waterboro, Hanna Cline, James Cline, Jr. and Bryce Cline, all of Limerick and Isabella Cline of Gorham; 10 siblings, William Smith and his wife Sandy of Belmont, New Hampshire, Louis Smith and his wife Kim of Loudon, New Hampshire, John Smith and his wife Diane of Tennessee, Linda Dube and her husband Jean of Pennsylvania, Ernest Smith and his wife Terri of Manchester, New Hampshire, David Smith and his wife Laurie of Manchester, New Hampshire, Vincent Smith of Loudon, New Hampshire, Michael Smith and his wife Brenda of Rochester, New Hampshire, Paul Smith of Rochester, New Hampshire and Elizabeth Smith of Alton, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A celebration of Mildred's life and pot luck gathering will follow from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the V.F.W. Hall located on School Street in Sanford.
