Shane S. McCarthy, 45, of Lee, NH, died Friday August 13 in Alfred from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.He was born in Cochituate, MA on January 19, 1965, the son of Nancy G. McCarthy and Peter Surner, both of whom predeceased him.After graduating from high school, Shane pursued a career as an electrician. For the past 7 years, he has lived in Lee, NH.His joy and zest for life left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He took each day one at a time and reveled in the events within it. He loved children, and, as he was a kid at heart, he recently visited the Bacon Street Festival in downtown Biddeford, entered and won the cupcake eating contest as children cheered him on. He was an avid Patriots fan, and if one intended to watch the game with him, one needed to be prepared for plenty of opinion and noise.To know Shane was to love him and to appreciate his generosity. Shane succeeding in defeating some personal issues and had his life on the right track. He had a deep respect for life and living creatures. Asked once why he had left a patch of his lawn un-mowed, he replied that he had discovered a spider spinning a web on the spot and would not disturb it. Shane died doing what he loved most-riding his bike. Motorcycling was his passion. He knew all things bike; what to buy, how to repair, how to ride and he loved to share his knowledge with others so that they might get the same enjoyment out of riding that he did. Survivors include his soul mate wife from whom he was inseparable, Lezlie Perham of Lee, NH, two brothers, David McCarthy of Lee's Summit, MO, Sage Surner of Raymond, NH, three sisters, Kimberly McCarthy of Biddeford, ME Samantha Pipkin and her husband David of Alexandria, VA, Heather Finerty and her husband Sean of Rockland, MA, brother in law Scott Perham and his wife Barbara of Rockport, MA, mother in law Elsa Lawrence of Rowley, MA, 8 nieces, 3 nephews and many other relative and lifelong friends. He will be loved and missed by all.An informal Celebration of Shane's Life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 1:00 PM on Cathedral Ledge in No. Conway, NH. Please honor what surely would have been Shane's request by dressing casually and comfortably in your favorite T-shirts and bright colors. As Lezlie was seriously injured in the same accident, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to her to help with expenses. Staging will begin at 10:00 AM, the ride leaves at 11:00 AM and will return at 12:30 PM for a Celebration of Shane's Life.
