Stanley Warren Tuttle, Sr. 77, of Back Road in Shapleigh, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 surrounded by his family, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.He was one of 19 children born to Martin and Eveleen (England) Tuttle, Sr. June 21, 1926 in Portland, Maine. He grew up in Limerick and Limington and attended schools there. He graduated from Sanford High School. Mr. Tuttle was employed as a production supervisor for Wasco Products in Sanford for many years. Stanley married Dawn Muchmore in 1946 and would have celebrated their 58th. Wedding anniversary on Monday, Feb. 9th. Mr. Tuttle was a "self made man," - He was a voracious reader. His favorite author was Tom Merton. A liberal Democrat, Stanley was active with the Democratic Party. He and his wife Dawn helped to establish the Free Meal Kitchen located at the Sanford Unitarian-Universalist Church. They worked over 14 years with the program and often Mr. Tuttle would share vegetables from his abundant vegetable garden. An avid golfer, He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening. He was a devoted family man, one who enjoyed having his children and grandchildren home for his famous boiled dinner. Survivors include his wife, Dawn M.Tuttle of Shapleigh; two sons: Stanley "Skip" and his wife, Cynthia Tuttle, Jr. of Wells and Wesley P. Tuttle of Kennebunk. Two daughters: Debra Pepin of Shapleigh and Cheryl and her husband, Marc Clift of Portland, Oregon. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His brothers: Martin Jr., John, Maurice, Harry, Richard and William Tuttle. His sisters: Rose Tuttle, Betty Bernier, Beatrice Sevigny and Helena Campbell. Friends and family may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9th. At the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Stanley's family extends an invitation to all who would like to share in food, fellowship and story telling on Tuesday, Feb. 10th. From 4 - 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, High Street, in Sanford.
